The Story
Hilary Joy Diaz
My name is Hilary Joy Diaz, and I am the creator of Hilary Joy Couture, the sterling silver and exotic gemstone collection. I am a graduate of Boston University School of Public Communication, where I majored in Broadcasting and Film. In my heart of hearts, I always had a passion for designing jewelry.
When I was a child my father always took me to his favorite atelier, Paul Seiden, who designed all of the jewelry he presented to my mother and grandmothers. When in high school I took college art classes. When the professor asked me to go outside and paint the landscape, I used the colors of the trees and flowers to sketch jewelry instead.
After graduating from college, I tried my hand at advertising, but quickly discovered that designing and creating jewelry was what I was put on this earth to do. I opened a small 200 square foot shop, and within six months I built a 10,000 square foot factory in New York City that did everything from model-making all the way to casting, setting and finishing beautiful jewelry.
“I heard that QVC had an open house every Wednesday for new vendors, so I drove to Pennsylvania to show the buyers my line. To my delight, I was the first vendor to create an exotic gemstone show for QVC.”
As time passed I realized that I wanted a show of my own. The Hilary Joy Collection ran for six years on HSN as well as the Shopping Channel in Canada. But then my son moved overseas to China, and I decided QVC was the place for my show. I started in Germany and did four shows, but it never felt right. Then came CNR Mall in Beijing, China, where they were new and did not yet understand exotic gemstones. I had a wonderful show for three years on QVC Japan. But my favorite place in the entire world is France.
The rest is history. I feel so lucky to be here, doing what I love most for the people I love most in the world. I have made so many friends in France since my show began in December 2016. I feel that Paris is my home, and where my heart is. It actually skips a beat every time I arrive. For me, this is the greatest accomplishment: to be a part of QVC and to grow with them in France.
Every stone I choose carries its own story, its own energy, the same way every place I've traveled has left its mark on me. I believe jewelry should mean something beyond how it looks. When you wear one of my pieces, I hope you feel a little of that story too.
